Charter rates for modern LNG carriers fall 40% in a week

Spot charter rates for LNG carriers have dropped sharply, with westbound routes (U.S./Atlantic → Europe) reaching around $21,000 per day, while rates in Asia remain above $30,000 per day. The decline is driven by oversupply of vessels, increased availability of ships, and shorter voyages that free up capacity more quickly. Despite the drop, vessel utilization in the west remains high, indicating a buildup of tonnage, while spot contracts continue to increase.
