Absheron: New Development Stage to Boost Azerbaijan’s Gas Production

TotalEnergies, SOCAR and XRG have taken the final investment decision for the full development of the Absheron gas-condensate field in the Caspian Sea. The new phase is expected to increase the field’s production capacity to 6 billion cubic metres of gas per year and 47,000 barrels of condensate per day, with production start-up planned for 2029.

By comparison, the first phase, which came on stream in 2023, produces up to 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas per year and 12,000 barrels of condensate per day. The project includes four subsea wells and a new onshore processing facility. The gas will be supplied both to Azerbaijan’s domestic market and to Turkey.
